Onsite OSHA Safety Training Made Jacksonville, Florida a Safer Place to Work

Jacksonville – Florida – Chamber of Commercial Workings

A decade ago, when you drove through the largest city in Florida (Jax), one glaring eye-sore made you wish that you were already fishing in Miami and far away from the Bold New City of the South. It was the perpetual road construction that seemed to go on forever and was unsafe for the workers that toiled on these sites in Jacksonville.

We caught up with a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Tim Spencer, recently and this man was all too happy to share with us here at Online OSHA Safety Training, his own trials and tribulations, as a construction worker on I-10.

“The work day started at 5:00 am and continued until well into the dark of night.” Tim said over a bagel and a cup of Joe at Ronnie’s Breakfast Nook on the south side of town. Mr. Spencer was employed with Straightway Road Construction from 2002 to 2008 and saw his fair share of accidents and even a sole fatality in his 8-years of working on the construction projects that dotted Jacksonville during his tenure.

“The truck was going so fast that all we could do was to dive out of the way and one worker was a tad bit slow and that slowness costs him his life.” The slow worker was Billy Tiller and after his family won a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver of that semi-trailer, the OOST onsite training team was called in to teach a class on construction ‘pass-through’ safety.

The course allowed the construction workers toiling on the construction sites on I-10 to feel safer and accidents dropped to zero in 2005. “We miss Billy something awful but his death was not for naught as the rest of us were able to work and provide for our families as the safety issues were taken into affect by the examiners and teachers from OOST.”

  1. Whether it is safety training online or onsite, the important thing is that the employee gets this kind of training. In a lot of places, osha 10 and osha 30 has been really popular in this training field.
