Alabama Lumber Company Hit with $1.9 Million in Fines – OSHA Safety Training Site Reports

One would think that with all of the nasty weather that has slammed into the state of Alabama, that the manufacturing firms and commercial backbone of the region could get a wee bit of lead-way with workplace safety fines. This is not the case as safety never takes or can afford to take even a slight, meaningless, minute off. The lives and the arms and legs of the workers are at stake here.

Phenix Lumber Company

The ability to keep safe, every single worker on site, is a requirement in the state of Alabama. This is why here at this OSHA safety-training site, the importance of reporting on the fines, that OSHA is contemplating levying against Phenix Lumber Company, needs to be heard.

Missing Cutting Tool Safety

The reason for the record fines in Alabama stem from the lumber company’s inability to offer safeguarding protection (egregious) to their employees. Other safety violations were mentioned with the most important being the lack of safety training, and other safeguarding apparatuses, on the many machines and cutting-tools, that are used on a daily basis at this firm’s mill.

  1. Now that is a lot of money to pay for penalties but I guess that is just right compared to having to pay for medical fees but not able to pay for things like life damaging injuries or even death. That is why it is very important to have trainings such as 40 hour hazwoper training as they are one of the tools to keep those penalties away including dangers and accidents.
